Some re-compressie loss is expected since this tool uses lossy WebP encoding (at quality 0.92). For everyday viewing and sharing, the difference is nearly invisible. If you need complete losslessness, convert to PNG format instead.

Are HEIC photos uploadened to a server?

Absolutely no uploadens. This tool uses the heic2any library to decode HEIC locally in the browser, then encodes to WebP via Web Workers. Your photos stay on your device the entire time and are never sent to any external server. Processing private photos is completely safe.

Can Windows open WebP?

Windows 10 version 1809 and later have built-in WebP support in the Photos app. For older Windows versions, you can open WebP files directly in Chrome or Edge browsers, or install the WebP extension. If the recipient's environment is uncertain, converting to JPG is the safer option.

Will transparant backgrounds be preserved?

Yes, fully preserved. WebP format supports alpha transparantie channels — transparant areas in HEIC are converted correctly with no white or black fill.

Are Live Photos supported?

The static HEIC image portion of Live Photos can be converted, but the dynamic video portion will not be converted. If you only need the still photo, it works perfectly.

Recent versions of Photoshop, GIMP, and other editors support WebP editing. However, if you plan to edit and save repeatedly, converting to PNG first is recommended to avoid quality degradation from multiple lossy compressie saves. Export to WebP after editing is complete.
