TIFF to PNG
Convert TIFF/TIF professional images to lossless PNG format entirely in your browser — your files never leave your device. While TIFF is ideal for professional photography and scanning, its lack of consumer software support and massive file sizes make it impractical for everyday use. Converting to PNG preserves lossless image quality (no JPG compression artifacts) while dramatically improving compatibility — PNG opens natively in every operating system, browser, and image editor. It's the perfect choice when you need to edit scanned documents, archive photos, or work with images where quality cannot be sacrificed.

Use Cases
- Scanned documents and old photos in TIFF format need lossless archiving as PNG for long-term digital preservation.
- Professional camera TIFF exports need to be opened in Photoshop, GIMP, or other editors without installing TIFF codecs.
- TIFF files from scanning services can't be opened on Windows or Mac without professional software — convert to PNG for native viewing.
- Document scans (receipts, contracts, forms) in TIFF need conversion to PNG for universal sharing and backup.
- TIFF images need import into PowerPoint, Word, or Keynote — PNG inserts and displays reliably in all Office apps.
- Medical, legal, and engineering document scans in TIFF need a universally viewable lossless format.
- Old film and photo scans as TIFF need PNG versions for genealogy projects, family albums, and online sharing without quality loss.
- TIFF transparency (from design software exports) needs to be preserved in a more widely supported format.
- Print shop scans come as TIFF — convert to PNG for graphic design work and digital manipulation.
- Professional TIFF product photos need to be edited in Canva or other web-based design tools that don't support TIFF.
- Archive projects need to convert legacy TIFF collections to PNG for modern digital storage and access.
- TIFF screenshots and technical drawings need conversion to PNG for embedding in wikis, documentation, and websites.
How to Use
- Click the upload area or drag a TIFF/TIF file onto the page. Both .tiff and .tif formats are supported.
- Local decoding starts automatically in the browser after file selection. Multi-page TIFFs extract the first page.
- Wait for the progress bar to complete. Large high-resolution TIFFs may take several seconds.
- Preview the converted PNG dimensions and file size, then click download to save.
Features
- 100% client-side processing: TIFF decoding and PNG encoding both happen in your browser via Web Workers — images are never uploaded to any server
- Lossless quality preserved: PNG uses lossless compression so no additional quality loss occurs after conversion from TIFF
- TIFF/TIF support: Fully supports both .tiff and .tif file extensions, including TIFFs from scanners and professional cameras
- Multi-page TIFF support: Multi-page TIFFs automatically extract and convert the first page to PNG
- Dramatic compatibility improvement: PNG opens in every OS, browser, and image editor without special software
- Auto-convert on upload: Select a TIFF file and processing starts immediately — no extra clicks needed
- Real-time progress tracking: Decode/encode percentage is visible even for large, high-resolution professional photos

FAQ
What's the difference between TIFF to JPG and TIFF to PNG?
JPG uses lossy compression (smaller files, some quality loss) and is best for sharing, uploads, and everyday use. PNG uses lossless compression (no quality loss, larger files than JPG but still much smaller than uncompressed TIFF) and is best for editing, archiving, text/document images, and any scenario where you can't afford compression artifacts.
Will quality be preserved when converting TIFF to PNG?
Yes. PNG uses lossless compression, so whatever quality the browser decodes from the TIFF is preserved exactly in the PNG output. No additional compression artifacts are introduced, unlike JPG conversion.
How are multi-page TIFFs handled?
The current version automatically extracts and converts the first page of multi-page TIFFs to PNG. If you need other pages, use a dedicated TIFF viewer to extract individual pages first.
Will transparent TIFFs retain transparency?
If the source TIFF contains an alpha channel and the browser correctly decodes it, PNG will preserve the transparency. Note that most TIFFs from scanners and cameras don't have transparency.
How much smaller is PNG compared to TIFF?
Uncompressed TIFF to PNG typically achieves 30-70% size reduction depending on image content, since PNG compresses losslessly. For the smallest possible files, use [TIFF to JPG](/image/tiff-to-jpg/) (90%+ reduction) or [TIFF to WebP](/image/tiff-to-webp/).
Are TIFF files uploaded to a server?
No uploads. All conversion happens locally in your browser via Web Workers. Your TIFF files — including scanned documents, personal photos, and confidential records — never leave your device.
Are 16-bit TIFFs supported?
Browser support for 16-bit and 32-bit TIFFs is limited. If the browser can decode the TIFF, it will be converted (usually downsampled to 8-bit per channel for PNG compatibility). For professional 16-bit workflows, use desktop software.
Is batch conversion supported?
Currently one TIFF is processed at a time for browser-side stability. Process files one by one for multiple conversions. Batch functionality may be added in future versions.
