FAQ

What's the difference between QR Codes and barcodes? When to use which?

QR Code is a 2D matrix code that can store more data (URLs, text, contact info etc.) with strong error correction, suitable for marketing, WiFi connection, vCard sharing, payment codes and more. Barcode is a 1D code that only stores numbers and a small number of characters with fast scanning speed, widely used in retail (EAN-13/UPC), logistics (CODE128), library management and other scenarios. This tool supports both QR Code and barcode generation in one page.

Can I generate WiFi QR Codes? How to use?

Yes. Select the "WiFi" type, enter WiFi name (SSID), password and encryption method (WPA/WPA2/WEP/No password). After generation, scan with your phone camera to connect to WiFi automatically without manually entering the password. For hidden networks, check the "Hidden Network" option. Perfect for restaurants, hotels, cafes, meeting rooms and other places to display on the wall for guests.

Can I add a Logo in the center or customize colors?

Yes. This tool supports custom foreground and background colors (12 preset colors + color picker for free selection), gradient effects, 3 dot styles (square/rounded/dots), and you can upload a custom Logo image to place in the center of the QR Code, with adjustable Logo size and corner radius. Note: When adding a Logo, it is recommended to set the error correction level to H (30%) to ensure scanning success rate.

What is error correction level? Which one should I choose?

QR Code error correction level indicates the ability to be correctly recognized even when part of the area is blocked or damaged: Level L (7%) for clean QR Codes without obstruction; Level M (15% default) for general use; Level Q (25%) for small Logos; Level H (30%) for large center Logos or scenarios where printing may be damaged. Higher error correction levels result in more complex QR Codes with denser dots. If adding a center Logo, H level is recommended.

Can I batch generate multiple QR Codes? How?

Yes. Under URL and Text types, check "Batch Mode", enter one URL or piece of text per line. The tool will automatically generate corresponding QR Codes/barcodes line by line. After generation, click "Download ZIP" to batch download all images. Batch mode supports URL and text QR Codes, as well as all types of barcodes, ideal for batch production of store product labels, event links, employee business cards and more.

Do generated QR Codes expire? What if they can't be scanned?

They don't expire. This tool generates static QR Codes with content directly encoded in the image, independent of any server, permanently valid. If scanning fails, check: 1) Is the content too long (QR Codes have limited capacity, URLs should be as short as possible); 2) Is the Logo too large covering too many dots; 3) Is the error correction level high enough; 4) Is there enough Quiet Zone when printing; 5) Is there sufficient contrast (large color difference between foreground and background).

What barcode formats are supported? What are the differences?

Supports CODE128 (most universal, supports alphanumeric, commonly used in logistics/warehousing), EAN-13 (13-digit international retail barcode), EAN-8 (8-digit shortened retail barcode), UPC-A (12-digit North American retail barcode), CODE39 (commonly used in industrial/military fields), ITF-14 (14-digit logistics carton code). EAN-13 requires 13 digits of pure numbers, UPC-A requires 12 digits, CODE128 supports any alphanumeric characters and symbols.

What is QR Code?

QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a type of 2D matrix barcode invented in 1994 by Denso Wave (a subsidiary of Toyota automotive component supplier Denso) in Japan. Originally used for tracking parts in automotive manufacturing, it became widely used across various fields due to fast scanning speed, large storage capacity, and strong error correction capability. QR Codes consist of black and white square modules (dots) with position detection markers (large squares) at three corners, allowing scanners to quickly recognize from any angle.

Compared to traditional 1D barcodes, QR Codes have much larger data capacity: up to 7089 numeric characters, 4296 alphanumeric characters, 2953 bytes of binary data, and approximately 984 Chinese characters (UTF-8). QR Codes have 4 error correction levels (L/M/Q/H), and can be correctly read even when up to 30% of the code surface is blocked or damaged — this is why Logos can be placed in the center of QR Codes.

QR Codes have become infrastructure for the mobile internet: payment scanning (WeChat Pay/Alipay), WiFi connection, vCard exchange, URL sharing, event check-in, product traceability, e-ticketing, menu ordering and more are almost ubiquitous. This tool generates standard QR Codes compatible with all mainstream phone cameras and scanning apps.

术语表

QR Code
Quick Response Code, a standard for 2D codes invented by Denso Wave, currently the most widely used 2D barcode format globally.
Error Correction Level
The ability of a QR Code to be recognized even when part of the area is damaged. L=7%, M=15% (default), Q=25%, H=30%. H level is recommended when adding a Logo.
vCard
Standard electronic business card format (.vcf file). Encoding vCard data in a QR Code allows scanning to directly add to phone contacts.
CODE128
The most commonly used 1D barcode format, supporting all 128 ASCII characters, widely used in logistics, warehousing and internal management.
EAN-13
International retail barcode standard with 13 digits, the most widely used barcode format for global retail products, commonly seen on product packaging.
UPC-A
Retail barcode format commonly used in the United States and Canada with 12 digits, compatible with EAN-13.
Quiet Zone
Blank margin that must be reserved around QR Codes/barcodes (at least 4 modules wide), otherwise scanners cannot correctly identify boundaries.
Static QR Code
QR Code with content directly encoded in the image, permanently valid and unmodifiable; different from dynamic QR Codes (content is a short link pointing to a server, can track scan data and modify destinations).
WiFi QR Code
QR Code encoding WiFi SSID/password/encryption method in standard format, phone camera scan can automatically connect to WiFi without manually entering password.
